State Representative Tom Calter is a guest on this episode of Monday Night Talk! Rep Calter discusses an educational drug forum called Heroin & Opiates in Our Backyard, which was slated to be held on February 10 at the Silver lake Regional High School in Kingston. The event has been rescheduled for February 25th.
Panel Program: 7:00 - 9:00 pm
An educational program for all parents and caring adults to learn about the very real epidemic of opiate and heroin abuse facing our community today. The speaking program (beginning at 7pm) will feature a panel presentation, followed by Q&A. Panelists will include Lt. Robert Wells from Kingston Police Dept.; Dr. Ludi Jamingas, Chief of Emergency Medicine from Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth; Ryan Morgan, Principal of Independence Academy; and Rich Barnes, a local recovering addict. Rep. Calter will moderate and will give legislative updates, progress and challenges.
Opening remarks will be offered by Superintendent John Tuffy, SLRSD; Chief Robert Heath, KFD; Chief Maurice Splaine, KPD; and Peter Holden, CEO, BID-Plymouth.
Preceding the panel program, a Resource Expo will run from 6 - 7pm that will give attendees a chance to gather information from area organizations, parent support groups, treatment centers and a myriad of other resources connected to substance abuse. Narcan training will also be available during this Expo as well. Groups planning to participate in the Resource Expo include:

Fernando Martinez, Operations and Outreach Coordinator with English for New Bostonians-English Works Campaign is a guest on this episode of Monday Night Talk!!! A partnership consisting of Metro South Chamber of Commerce, Brockton Area Workforce Investment Board, CareerWorks Career Centers, Massasoit Community College, and English for New Bostonians’ English Works Campaign is hosting a free information session for businesses in the Brockton, Bridgewater, Easton, and surrounding areas on the Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund Program on Thursday, January 29th. The Workforce Training Fund Program is a pool of money that, according to the Massachusetts Department of Labor’s website, “provide[s] resources to Massachusetts businesses and workers to train current and newly hired employees.” Any business that pays into the Commonwealth’s Unemployment Insurance system is eligible to receive Workforce Training Fund dollars to train their incumbent workers, and those eligible are especially encouraged to attend. Attendees will learn from a representative from the MA Department of Labor about different types of grants available. They will also discuss eligibility requirements for those who wish to apply for WTFP monies, as well as application pointers and tips. Grants from the Workforce Training Fund Program have been used to train workers in a wide variety of needs, including English language training, new manufacturing production methods, supervisory and leadership skills, and many other topics.The free forum will be held on Thursday, January 29th at the offices of Metro South Chamber of Commerce at 60 School St., Brockton, and will run from 9:00 to 11:00am.
